LEGACY FEST RETURNS

After a sold-out debut, Matakana's newest boutique festival is gearing up for round two. The road to Matakana starts here.

There's a particular kind of magic that happens when The Stables Events Venue & Secret Garden fills with live music. After selling out its debut event in January, capped deliberately at 1,000 guests, Legacy Fest is back on Saturday 30 January 2027 with another impressive line- up of Kiwi acts.

Headlining is The Black Seeds, the Wellington reggae-funk-soul institution whose horn-driven grooves have soundtracked New Zealand summers for over two decades. They're joined by Zed, back with the anthems that defined a generation of Kiwi radio, and a string of homegrown talent in White Chapel Jak, Rumpus Machine and Big Elastic.

And in a nod to where it all began, Hello Sailor's Harry Lyon returns as special guest – the same pairing of heritage and new- generation sound that made 2026's edition sell out in the first place.

That's the thread running through Legacy Fest: not a festival built around any one act, but around the idea that Aotearoa's music legacy is alive and ongoing. Pioneers on the same bill as the artists carrying it forward.

Tickets for Legacy Fest 2027 are on sale now, and to celebrate the announcement, Legacy Fest has teamed up with Junction Magazine to give one lucky reader a VIP experience.
