A Non Stop Woman with a One Stop Shop


Melita Campbell is petit and very personable, but clearly she is also a powerhouse. Event planners are born, not made, and Melita is no exception. As a child, she took a great interest in her parents’ dinner parties and as a university student she, with some of her fellow English majors, started a catering company called ‘By Word of Mouth’.

After four years in London, Melita came home, got married, had a baby and found herself commuting from Auckland to Hamilton managing V8 Supercar street races, playing ‘pass the baby’ with Grant, her fireman husband, as he headed home from night shift. A second child prompted a re-think. The decision to move to north was easy after weekends spent in Omaha at Melita’s family bach.

2011 saw Melita return to the fray to manage the Summer Concert Series for Greenstone Entertainment, which she continues to do.

Melita believes the Matakana region has a great deal to gain by becoming ‘event-friendly’. To this end she teamed up with Fiona Angus who is responsible for marketing the Matakana Country Park, our largest outdoor venue. This dynamic duo are behind Destination Matakana, which offers event design and management services, and Weddings Matakana, an expo and referral service.

The pair have been responsible for most of the large-scale events held at Country Park including big summer concerts and recently a 1,000 delegate Chinese convention, which went off without a hitch.

Melita has steadily amassed a fabulous collection of charming, custom-made furniture and props which was beginning to outgrow their garage. While looking for storage, the local Carlton Party Hire franchise became available, and everything fell into place.

Matakana Events now has a depot in Warkworth where you can access Melita’s expertise, her fabulous props and the entire range of Carlton Party Hire equipment. It’s a one stop shop run by a non-stop woman.
