A&P Show 2017

The first Warkworth A&P Lifestyle Show was held in 1867, making it one of the oldest in the country. This year is the 150th show, and the committee has been working hard to pull together some exciting plans for an extra-special show – a huge celebration of our community.

Saturday is the main show day, with competitive events covering horses, cattle, goats, sheep dogs, wood-chopping, calf club, cooking, horticulture, arts and crafts, painting, garden produce, needlework and a children’s section. This year we also have free kid’s amusements included with your ticket price. There’s a water-slide, a mega-slide, obstacle course, bouncy castles and a number of other sideshows for young and old.

The wood-chopping is always popular; the local Puhoi Axemen will be competing hard against visiting teams. There’ll be lawn mower racing too this year: held in the rodeo ring on the Saturday, it should generate a fair bit of excitement. The sheep shearing competitors will be in hot pursuit of points and prizes, while the sheep racing is always a favourite with the kids. And if horses are your thing, this year’s special 150th Royal Equestrian Show will be spectacular, with competitors and judges coming from around NZ.

On Sunday the Mahurangi Sports Collective are running a ‘Silly Buggers Challenge’ where 20 teams of four members will complete silly challenges against the clock – this will kick off at 1.30pm

Trade displays have a number of new exhibitors. Plus there are vintage cars and collectables and the Auckland Stationary Engine Club with working machines (in conjunction with the Warkworth Museum), for historically-minded folk.

It’s worth putting in your diary now: 150 years of the Warkworth A&P show!
