Heading down the driveway at Ransom Winery, there's little indication of what's in store. The bold architecture and sweeping views of the vines are a nice surprise, and tend to provoke a delighted response from visitors.

This vineyard has been around for over 20 years. It's a family business run by owners Robin and Marion Ransom, their winemaker son Gabriel and Marion's brother Rob as vineyard manager.

All Ransom wines are made only from grapes grown on the premises. Recently they've finished a whopper of a planting programme - 900 chardonnay vines, 900 syrah vines and 400 cabernet franc.

This summer the team has honed your food and wine experience to the point of perfection. Enjoy a delicious platter with your choice of wine, and treat yourself to a leisurely lunch overlooking lush rows of vines.

Marion says, "Thanks to Gabriel, our outdoor area has had an excellent redesign, so it's all looking good for the holidays." She adds, "It's best to book ahead if you're coming for lunch though – we're expecting a busy summer!"

Three new wines have been recently released: the 2013 Clos de Valerie Pinot Gris and the 2012 Mahurangi red. Ransom's first ever 100% Malbec from the excellent 2013 vintage has also just been launched, so there's plenty of excuses for tastings.
