The Mangawhai Bowl Jam skate event returns for February 5 2017 – Waitangi Weekend. Now cemented as one of New Zealand's biggest skateboarding events, it’s set to take over the world-class Mangawhai Bowl once again, with a line-up of the best skateboarders from around the country. The Mangawhai Activity Zone (MAZ) is firmly on the map as one of the best skateparks in the New Zealand and is keen to draw international attention with its nest stage of upgrades. (or something more about park itself! No?)

This year they combine forces with the Loggerheads surf event (Feb 4). There’s also an official Bowl Jam after-party with feature bands Racing, THPS and Byron Bay-based Israeli Chicks. It is looking to be an exceptional weekend for skateboarders and spectators alike.

Jesse Peters started the Mangawhai Bowl Jam six years ago. “My intention was to create a grassroots event that would allow a platform for local talent to grow,” he says. “Last year we had a crowd of 1000+. It’s exciting to see where it has got to! The challenge is to keep the core ethos of ‘by skateboarders, for skateboarders’ at the heart of the event. It’s all about bringing skateboarders together from across NZ to push each other – and have a damn fun time while doing so.”
