“Crafted by hand with love and smoke, honouring the lores of the old time folk”. These words are the final embellishment on family-run Matakana Smokehouse’s stylish, revamped branding. The new design does their delectable artisan products and wholesome ethics proud. Only organic ingredients are used where possible – a point of difference owner, Michael Isbey, was keen to point out.
“We like to do things differently here. We like to use new products, and new ingredients.” Their signature hot smoked salmon with toasted nigella seeds and coconut sugar are proof of this, but new product ideas are in the works, too. There have been mouth-watering mentions of smoked swordfish pastrami making an appearance soon, as well as suggestions of timely winter meats such as smoked lamb shank and beef brisket following not long after.
Good news: Matakana Smokehouse’s delicious products are now being stocked locally at Matakana Four Square, Warkworth New World and the Snells Beach Fruit and Veg. You can also find Michael at the Matakana Markets every Saturday.
