Wharf Street Bistro

steak We’re hearing a lot about the Wharf Street Bistro. The restaurant overlooking the Mahurangi River always had good bones, but Matt and Rachel Macfarlane have turned it into a funky, welcoming space that makes you want to settle into for a while.

Is it the goat-hide barstools or the covetable vintage bric-a-brac? The solid rows of good cocktail fodder behind the bar, or the feeling of being up in the treetops? All of these, but by all accounts, it’s the food that’s the biggest drawcard.

Classic bistro icons such as twice-baked cheese soufflé, fillet steak, pork belly and luscious seafood all have slick new twists – and people are talking it up. The menu will be fresh, flexible and seasonal. Matt and Rachel and their happy bunch of local girls will be glad to see you – just for drinks, or for the full three courses. We’d advise you to book early.
