MORE THAN A MORNING RUN
What began as two mums, two babies, and a Sunday coffee run has grown into one of Omaha’s most welcoming weekly fixtures.
The Local Run Club (TLRC) started in June 2026 when Kobi and Dani, two mums, decided to get out every Sunday with their babies, Dovie and Sven, then just 8 and 10 months old, followed by a well-earned coffee. The pair had met at a Warkworth babies' class earlier in the year, and with a shared background in sport, health and wellness, starting a run club felt like a natural next step, even if they weren't sure anyone else would show up.
They needn't have worried. TLRC has since grown into a genuine weekly fixture, drawing locals from Warkworth, Omaha, Matakana and beyond. The format remains refreshingly simple: gather at The Farmers Daughter at 7.45am for a light warm-up and a chat, then head off for a 20-minute run, jog or walk toward Omaha Beach and 20 minutes back. The route is mostly flat, save for a few sharp climbs over the Omaha sand dunes, before everyone lands back at the same table for homemade green juice and coffee at 8.40am. Turning up solo is completely normal – most members started out that way, completing the 40-minute route at whatever pace suits.
There's plenty on the horizon for TLRC this summer. Following a successful sauna and ice-bath session with Art of Recovery, the team returns in November and December, with pre-booking essential via the link on TLRC's Instagram – choose between a sauna/ ice bath and breakfast combo, or the sauna/ ice bath alone. Further additions are in the works too, including Pilates sessions with The Local Club Warkworth and run-and-sea-dip mornings come mid-summer.
TLRC is not your average run club. Runners welcome. Walkers welcome. Anyone chasing an excuse to get out of bed on a Sunday – also very welcome. Head to The Farmers Daughter on Sunday at 7.45am.
