DRIVEN BY MOVEMENT – GEORGIA BRIERLY

Georgia Brierly’s life has always revolved around movement – on the track, the rugby field, and in the gym she calls her second home.

Growing up in Port Albert and Wellsford, Georgia developed a deep love for sport and community. At Rodney College, where she was Head Girl, she threw herself into athletics, touch, netball, swimming, and road running – both playing and coaching younger students. These early experiences shaped her values of perseverance, leadership, and giving back, which continue to guide her today.

Her journey into rugby came unexpectedly. A talented sprinter, Georgia was selected to travel to Europe for a rugby sevens tournament, despite having little experience in the sport. She later competed in the Ignite

Sevens programme for two years, winning in her second season. These experiences sparked her passion for rugby and opened the door to a new sporting pathway that continues to play a major role in her life.

Georgia went on to represent Northland in age-grade and senior rugby before joining North Harbour where she is in her second season competing in the Farah Palmer Cup, New Zealand’s premier women’s rugby championship – a key national championship and development pathway for players aspiring to reach the Black Ferns, clearly on her radar.

Balancing high-level rugby with work and everyday life is no small feat. Representing Harbour involves long drives south for training sessions twice weekly, additional gym sessions, and travel for away games, but as Georgia notes, “playing at a higher level, especially alongside my teammates, makes all the effort worthwhile.”

Off the pitch, Georgia channels the same energy into GBFITandwell, a health and wellness platform she founded to inspire people to move, feel, and perform at their best. A qualified Personal Trainer, she draws on professional knowledge and lived experience to create training sessions that encourage confidence, sustainable habits, and overall wellbeing. She also works as Sports Coordinator at Mahurangi College, helping students engage with sport and discover their potential – whether through competing at a high level or simply enjoying being active.

Georgia’s work is motivated not by accolades but by connection. She creates environments where individuals and teams feel supported, motivated, and capable of achieving their goals, all while promoting long-term health. Working out of Mad Mel Movement as a trainer, running women-only classes at Black Swamp Dojo, and offering personalised sessions in her home gym, Georgia helps clients develop strength and resilience.

At her core, Georgia is a driven athlete. Whether lifting weights in the gym, tackling on the rugby field, or coaching someone through their first push-up, she embodies commitment, consistency, and growth. For Georgia, GBFITandwell is less a brand and more a reflection of who she is – founded on movement, discipline, and a genuine love for sport and self-improvement.
