WHERE REAL HEALING BEGINS

Mangawhai Hypnotherapy offers something quietly remarkable; a space where people feel seen, heard, supported, and free to heal at their own pace.

Founded by local registered hypnotherapist Suse Ashford, the practice is built on genuine care rather than clinical distance, and on transformation rather than endless talking.

Suse’s journey into hypnotherapy began with a simple but powerful question: what actually helps people heal? While studying psychotherapy, she was struck by stories of clients remaining in therapy for over a decade. “I remember thinking, surely there’s a way to help people move forward faster,” she says. When she discovered hypnotherapy, she found what she’d been looking for: a process that gets to the root cause and allows the subconscious mind to do the work it’s designed to do.

Sessions at Mangawhai Hypnotherapy are deeply collaborative. Together with her clients, Suse identifies the issue and explores the kinds of questions they’d like to ask their subconscious. She then explains that it’s as effortless as picturing a shoe: “You don’t have to search for it; it just appears.” That’s how the subconscious communicates: directly, honestly, and without judgment.

From there, Suse guides clients safely into trance, helping them access their own wisdom and insight. She doesn’t tell people what to think or feel; instead, she holds space as the subconscious reveals what’s needed. Sometimes healing happens through revisiting a memory with compassion, rewriting an old ending, or allowing parts of the self to reconcile. Often, it’s about releasing what the body has been holding onto: grief, fear, or tension, so that mind and body can finally align.

What sets Mangawhai Hypnotherapy apart is its heart. Suse isn’t interested in locking clients into long programmes or hard-sell promises. Her joy lies in seeing someone walk out lighter, sometimes after just one session. “When people realise they already have the answers within them,” she says, “it’s incredible to witness. It’s not just therapy, it’s transformation. And sometimes, it even feels like a little bit of magic.”
