TALKING IT THROUGH
Living in Martins Bay and working from Warkworth’s Bertram House, Counsellor Prue Turner brings a warm, down-to-earth approach to her practice, Turner Talk Therapy.
Prue’s journey into counselling began with her own experience of reaching a point where change felt necessary. At the time, she was working as a Legal Executive in large corporate law firms – environments that demanded high performance under pressure. The fast-paced, “work hard, play hard” culture left little space for self- reflection or emotional wellbeing.
It was through counselling that Prue began to reconnect with her own values, ultimately stepping away from a career that no longer aligned with what mattered most. Inspired by the clarity and liberation she found from living up to her own expectations rather than anyone else’s, she decided to retrain so she could offer the same to others.
Today, she supports clients both online and in person, working with them to gently unpack stress, identify unhelpful patterns, and explore new ways of responding. As a New Zealand Association of Counsellor’s- registered counsellor, Prue recognises that impartial, trained support can be powerful when navigating life’s more challenging chapters.
She believes in building a solid therapeutic bond, offering empathy, encouragement, and practical tools to help people feel more grounded and empowered. Her approach includes setting achievable goals, encouraging assertive communication, and developing healthy boundaries – small but significant changes that can create meaningful shifts.
Turner Talk Therapy uniquely captures Prue’s personal connection to the process. She knows how easy it is to get stuck or overwhelmed and how powerful it can be to feel truly heard. Her work is underpinned by a deep respect for each client’s pace and needs, creating a safe and secure space where real progress can be made.
Originally from Auckland, Prue spent weekends at Omaha Beach growing up. After several years on Waiheke Island, she and her husband made the move to Martins Bay in early 2025. Now happily settled, Prue enjoys group fitness classes in Warkworth, beach walks with her dog, and casting a line off the rocks – bringing in kahawai and snapper on a good day.
She’s enthusiastic about being part of the Mahurangi community and is passionate about supporting others to live more consciously, in alignment with their own values – just as she learned to do herself.
