WARKWORTH WALKS 2025

Returning this year from Friday 14 to Sunday 16 November, this special event features 12 exciting trails.

Words Luke Williamson

New this year is Warkworth Wonders which will take in the beauty and diversity of the areas close to town. From Kōwhai Park to the riverside walk, Parry Kauri Park to the Cement Works and Lucy Moore Park, join guides for a beautiful meander through the highlights of Warkworth town.

Saturday also features another new trail, Short & Sweet. This trail caters to those who want something a bit less physically challenging, but still crave all the adventure of private land, secluded bush and the good company Warkworth Walks is famous for.

Friday’s sole trail is Walk on Water which has been reconfigured to run from Opahi Bay to Pūhoi, via an upriver kayak trip on the Pūhoi river. Enjoy the beautiful Mahurangi West walk first before meeting the incoming tide for a paddle to the pub.

Saturday is rounded out with the return of Atiu Creek Trail, Fallen Tree Bush Walk and Insiders’ Tāwharanui. These three are favourites from the last couple of years and always sell out quickly.

Warkworth Walks is delighted to be running the Pohuehue to Pūhoi trail again on Sunday 16 November after a two year break. This trail covers an amazing range of terrain and environments, plus a pizza and beer finale at the pub.

Duck Creek Explorer returns, due to popular demand, and will likely sell out quickly with its delightful variety of private property visits and cider experience for lunch.

Taking on Mahurangi East is the Kawau Bay Foreshore Fandango, an astounding way to explore a coastline likely to have been driven past but seldom walked all in one go. And on the west side, the Mahu West Wonderland trail maintains its reputation as one of the most visually stunning of this event. Every twist and turn is a wow!

Walking the coastline also features in Takatu Coast Rockhopper, but Christian Bay to Buckleton’s Beach is much less visited so all the more adventurous.

Rounding out the event is the famous Vineyard Trail which has run every year since 2009. A highlight on the schedule because it explores back blocks normally not open to the public, samples wine, and has a great lunch at Omaha Bay Vineyard included.

Full details and booking is available online – be quick before everything sells out.
