A DECADE OF SLOW FASHION

This year, Wixii celebrates a quiet milestone – 10 years of natural fabrics and slow fashion.

To mark the occasion, the family-run label is hosting its first Matakana Pop-Up Store from 6-8 March, offering a deep dive into the archive. Shoppers can expect coveted hand-selected vintage, samples and seconds alongside new season arrivals.

At the heart of Wixii is a deep commitment to the natural fabrics movement. Led by a mother-and-daughters trio – Shelley and daughters Georgia and Meila – the brand creates natural clothing as a non-toxic alternative to modern synthetics, where skincare begins at the fabric tag.

Designing is likened to assembling a giant jigsaw puzzle; every element must have its place – strong individually, yet cohesive as a complete story to form a collection. Ten years on, Wixii still works with the same talented makers – natural fibre experts who form the link between hand and heritage. With a shared love of luxurious natural fabrics, they produce garments using traditional techniques and quality fibres. Learning flows both ways, creating a beautiful intersection of craft and creativity.

The design process is a team effort, beginning with what the team wants to wear themselves, then expanding outward – imagining how these pieces will resonate with friends and their wider community, both here and overseas. With strong followings in New Zealand, Australia, and pockets of the US and Europe, Wixii designs with these markets in mind. Wixii’s audience has always been strikingly diverse, effortlessly spanning generations through simple designs – an emblematic mother-and-daughter brand. This multigenerational appeal is intrinsic to the label, shaped by the distinct perspectives of its three owners. Their age difference fuels the depth and breadth of each collection, defining seasonal direction and keeping the design language fluid.

The AW26 collection arrives as an exhale. Cashmere jumpers, silk and cotton hoodies, luxurious knitted silk tops and linen pants form the foundation of an autumn wardrobe.

A colour palette of creams and calming ocean blues is grounded by woodland browns and nature-inspired greens. Natural dyeing techniques and a seasonally developed palette give each collection its own visual language, often forming the starting point from which the range evolves.

Ultimately, the brand’s customers inform design decisions. While the creative team remains experimental, they are deeply attentive to the women who wear their pieces – viewing them as collaborators in the journey and shaping each collection through the garments that are most cherished. Wixii is fortunate to have the support of like-minded women whose loyalty and shared values continue to sustain and inspire the brand.

Key pieces from the new collection can be viewed and purchased at the upcoming Matakana pop-up located at 451 Matakana Rd, Warkworth.
