SNAPSHOT OF SUMMER: BY KATE LITTLE

Photos Kate Little Photography

Celebrating the ease, light, and unmistakable energy of a coastal summer, captured through the lens of local photographer and long-time Junction contributor Kate Little.

Kate has spent years documenting life across the region, capturing natural, honest imagery that tells a story. As a family, wedding, and branding photographer, her goal is always to put people at ease so genuine moments unfold naturally, letting the camera fade into the background.

“The Matakana and Mangawhai regions offer endless inspiration, but the heart of every shoot is always the people in front of me.” From dog-friendly wanders along Omaha Beach to the golden evening glow at Tāwharanui, the cool mornings beneath the canopy of the Matakana forest, the sculptural rock forms at Picnic Bay, and the dramatic forest-meets-sea setting of Forestry, each location brings its own character while never overshadowing the story being told.

“When you’re comfortable, the real moments show up, and they are the ones you’ll want to hold onto.”

TOP TIPS FOR LOCAL SUMMER SHOOTS:

• Choose sunrise or sunset for soft, flattering light (and cooler temps).

• Avoid the midday sun when you can, it’s harsh and squinty for everyone.

• Using natural shade – forests, dunes, and cliffs – for beautifully even light.

• Dress light and comfortable. Breathable fabrics and soft, earthy tones work best in summer heat.

• Pick locations with variety. Omaha, Tāwharanui, Picnic Bay, and Forestry all offer multiple looks as the light changes.
