A HAVEN IN THE HEART OF THE VILLAGE
Tucked into a quiet street just a short stroll from Matakana Village, The Village Haven has built a loyal following – and it's easy to see why.
The architecturally designed home sleeps eight across four bedrooms. French oak parquet flooring underfoot sets the tone for two separate living areas – one anchored by a large television, the other by a gas fireplace – meaning a group can gather together or peel off to their own space with ease. At the heart of it all is a genuine cook's kitchen, fitted with marble benchtops, WOLF oven, Sub-Zero fridges, Thermomix, wine fridge, and bar cart, opening seamlessly onto the outdoor living area, complete with a Weber BBQ, where most of the entertaining happens. A pool, heated from Labour Weekend through to Easter, keeps things lively while a putting green adds friendly competition and an outdoor fireplace – marshmallows at the ready – rounds out an evening under the stars.
The master suite is a retreat in itself, with a king bed, walk-in wardrobe, dual-head shower, underfloor heating, air conditioning, and its own private deck, while the main bathroom holds a deep tub, complete with bath salts for a relaxing soak. Three further bedrooms, landscaped gardens with genuine privacy, and a fully fenced section round out a home built to comfortably host families, groups, or couples.
What lifts it further still is the address. The Saturday farmers’ market, the cinema, an the village's restaurants and wine bars are all an easy stroll away – meaning nobody has to drive home from dinner. Beyond the village, guests can fill every day with adventure, or simply retreat to their haven.
Owner Katie Phillipps created the house as somewhere her own family could escape for a weekend, and she still runs it that way today, right down to the cot and highchair available on request.
Four years of hosting have earned The Village Haven a 4.98 rating, and one line that comes up again and again in reviews: it's even better than the pictures show.
