A much-loved coastal accommodation has been given a fresh new look. Now beautifully renovated, Mangawhai Chalets is ready to welcome guests once again.
When Giles and Victoria Maurice visited Mangawhai in January 2024 with their sons, Lewis and Joshua, they had no idea it would be a life-changing trip. The boys, both keen surfers and ocean lovers, were instantly taken with the area and told their parents they’d love to live there. Within a week, Giles and Victoria had discovered that Mangawhai Chalets was for sale, and soon after, they became the proud new owners.
With a shared love of property renovation, the couple saw an exciting opportunity to transform the interiors of the much-loved board-and- batten chalets while preserving their rustic charm. Each chalet underwent a full renovation, from rewiring and plumbing to fresh bathrooms, new beds and premium linen. The gardens and landscaping were refreshed, and the covered outdoor kitchen, affectionately known as the scullery, also received a modern upgrade.
Made up of three accommodations: Kingfishers Cove and Tuis Glen, which sleep two, and Gulls Nest, which sleeps four, Mangawhai Chalets is ideal for couples, families, or a relaxed group getaway. With every detail considered, each chalet includes free wifi, tea and coffee facilities, a mini fridge, and a 32-inch smart TV, while the scullery offers a fully equipped kitchen and covered outdoor dining area for shared use.
Perfectly positioned in central Mangawhai Heads, the chalet’s location is yet another drawcard, just a one-minute stroll from the village shops and eateries, a five-minute walk to the estuary, and a short drive to the surf beach. Mangawhai Golf Course is just across the road, and Te Arai Links is 25 minutes away.
After a 15-month journey of transformation, the doors have reopened and the Maurice family is ready to welcome guests to Mangawhai Chalets, and share their love for the place they now call home.
