AN ARTFUL EYE
Sioux Anich is a mixed-media abstract painter and printmaker from the Kaipara Hills whose work reflects her deep connection to the land and her ever- evolving creative exploration.
Having exhibited and sold pieces in many local Mahurangi exhibitions, Sioux has built a reputation for her ability to experiment with different techniques, pushing the boundaries of her craft without formal training.
Her artistic journey spans multiple mediums, from acrylic painting to oil painting and intricate printmaking. Sioux embraces the freedom of self-directed learning, allowing her to create without constraint, drawing inspiration from the world around her.
Painting has transformed the way she sees the world, revealing beauty in everyday details and inspiring her to explore textures, colours, and forms that might otherwise go unnoticed. As Sioux puts it, 'The world looks more interesting through an artist's eyes.'
As a member of the Kowhai Crafts print group and an active participant in the Mahurangi Artist Collective, Sioux has developed her skills within a supportive creative community. These connections have provided her with not only new techniques but also an environment that encourages artistic growth and collaboration.
Living on a farm, she has access to a wealth of organic materials that often make their way into her art. She continuously finds ways to integrate her surroundings into her creative process, whether through mixed media works or her distinctive Gelli print designs. This printmaking technique allows her to experiment with layers, stencils, and textured objects, creating intricate, one-of-a- kind pieces.
Through each painting and print, Sioux Anich invites viewers into her evolving artistic world - one shaped by curiosity, nature, and a passion for the limitless possibilities of mixed media. With an eye for creativity that knows no bounds her journey continues to unfold, offering fresh perspectives and thought- provoking works that enrich the Mahurangi art scene.
